ABOUT
dblspce (pronounced as double space) is an independent space and incubator for artistic practice, discourse, and creative kinship. Situated in Singapore, it functions as both a studio/residency and a mentorship programme, fostering critical dialogue and interdisciplinary exchanges.
Founded in 2021 by Sab Koh and Kimberly Shen – established educators, art practitioners, and PhD researchers, dblspce operates as a self-funded initiative, sustained through the co-founders' shared vision, commitment, and resources.
Rooted in the co-founders’ shared ethos, dblspce draws from the intersections of their artistic practices and research. Sab Koh explores queer/ing female kinships through participatory art, fostering collective practices that reshapes intimacy and kinship; Kimberly Shen examines feminist curatorial methodologies through interrogating practices of care and knowledge-making. Both prioritise intimacy, care, and collaborative meaning-making in artistic and curatorial contexts.
Through residencies, mentorship/coaching, and public programming, dblspce is committed to artistic inquiry as a social and collective gesture – one that requires space, time, and support to flourish. More than a site of production, dblspce is a catalyst for collaboration and experimental processes, nurturing shared affinities and connections across emerging and diverse practices.
